Why this site exists

Most window management writing is a list of shortcuts. Almost none of it explains which layout suits which kind of work, which is the part that actually matters.

What we publish

RectangleFlow is an independent editorial project about keyboard-driven window management on macOS. Every guide is organised around a kind of work — design, development, study, market analysis, writing, video editing — rather than around a feature list, because the question people actually have is not "what does this shortcut do" but "how should my screen be arranged for what I am doing right now".

How the guides are made

Layouts are described in twelfths of the screen and drawn to scale, so a diagram in a guide corresponds exactly to what the shortcuts produce. Shortcut references reflect default bindings. Where a claim depends on hardware — an ultrawide, a docked laptop, a second display — we say so rather than generalising from one setup.

Independence

We are not affiliated with the Rectangle project, its maintainers, or any other window management software mentioned here. Nobody pays for coverage or placement. Where we compare tools, we try to say plainly which type of user each one suits, including the cases where the built-in macOS tiling is the right answer and no additional software is needed.

Corrections

macOS changes, applications change, and defaults change with them. If something here is out of date or wrong, tell us — corrections are made quickly and noted where they materially change the advice.

Start with the shortcuts

Six commands cover most of a working day. The rest is a lookup table.
